The Trinity150 program – Letter to Old Boys

Dear Old Boys of Trinity,

We were indeed encouraged by your presence, and are thankful to you for your participation at the ‘Trinity 150’ Launch. As you know, the Celebrations got underway with a kick-off which elaborated on the thoughtfully-crafted plan for a series of development projects to position Trinity to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. The ‘Trinity150 Program’ will encompass a re-launch of the Boarding, revitalization of teaching methods and academic programs, improved offerings for co-curricular activities and related improvements to the infrastructure (particularly with regard to IT). We have developed a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate this project and are dedicated to the idea of a purposeful pathway.

As discussed in detail by His Lordship the Bishop of Colombo and the College Principal, we kindly encourage ‘Trinity Worldwide Alumni’ to make a serious commitment towards the ‘Trinity150 Program’. This can be done through Batches, OBA Branches, Groups of friends and family, or as individuals. We fully appreciate your concerns on the commitments made by certain ‘Batches’ towards your own projects, but we request all of you to kindly “place Trinity first” for continued strength as the Trinity150 Program will help future generations of students pursue their own identities and become future leaders, both locally and internationally. The commitment and benevolence of donors, be it individual/Batch/OBA/Sports Foundation/Corporate, etc., towards Trinity 150, will indeed be recognized with appropriate plaques displayed prominently at the project buildings and/or with a dedicated “Trinity150 Donor Wall”.

The “Trinity150” Press release which appeared in the local newspapers (June, 2018) is now available at: https://trinitycollege.lk/2018/06/13/trinity-college-celebrates-150-years-with-trinity-150/.

The preliminary estimates for Trinity 150 project prepared by old boy and renowned Architect Mr. Channa Daswatte and Chartered Architect Mrs. Rangaji Jayasekera, are as follows :-

Asgiriya Sports Hall   Rs. 175 mn.

New Dining Hall   Rs. 125 mn.

Napier House Renovation   Rs. 35 mn.

Alison House Renovation   Rs. 30 mn.

New Commerce Classrooms and Science Laboratory Block   Rs. 175 mn.

The Trinity150 Video Documentary developed consequent to the Launch, could now be viewed at: https://youtu.be/KmbLX6vY6PI, and has also been posted on the Website https://trinitycollege.lk/trinity150/. Observations on the plans from Old Boys are most welcome ideally by end September 2018.

We the Advisory & Oversight Committee, will at all times ensure your contributions are properly managed, and work with complete transparency and accountability.

We benefit from the facilities our predecessors and generous benefactors left for us. We were nurtured by them. So let us join together to make Trinity a better place, in line with the best that can be found today; so that future Trinitians can cherish their school days as we once did.

  • What did the construction of the Trinity College Chapel look like a hundred years ago?

Only a handful of photographs survive from those early years. Using modern AI video generation powered by @googlegemini 's Veo 3.1, we have brought these quiet fragments back to life, offering a glimpse of how the Chapel slowly took shape through patience, craftsmanship, and vision.

We hope this reconstruction helps you appreciate the vision, labour, and devotion that shaped one of Trinity’s most treasured landmarks.
